چکیده

While consistency of the maximum likelihood estimator of the drift matrix in a multi-dimensional continuous time Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process holds under rather general conditions, little is known about the rate of convergence and the limiting distribution of the estimator when the underlying process is not ergodic. The objective of the paper is to investigate these questions for an important example of a non-ergodic two-dimensional Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process: an undamped harmonic oscillator.

Instabilities of the harmonic oscillator with fluctuating damping.

We investigate the instabilities of a linear damped oscillator due to fluctuations of the damping parameter. The fluctuations are driven either by Gaussian white noise or Poisson white noise (white shot noise). We consider three notions of stability. The first two are the well-known notions of stability in the mean and stability in the mean square. We introduce the concept of thermodynamic stab...

Discriminating dynamical from additive noise in the Van der Pol oscillator

We address the distinction between dynamical and additive noise in time series analysis by making a joint evaluation of both the statistical continuity of the series and the statistical differentiability of the reconstructed measure. Low levels of the latter and high levels of the former indicate the presence of dynamical noise only, while low values of the two are observed as soon as additive ...

Numerical solution of second-order stochastic differential equations with Gaussian random parameters

In this paper, we present the numerical solution of ordinary differential equations (or SDEs), from each order especially second-order with time-varying and Gaussian random coefficients. We indicate a complete analysis for second-order equations in special case of scalar linear second-order equations (damped harmonic oscillators with additive or multiplicative noises). Making stochastic differe...

Harmonic oscillator under Lévy noise: unexpected properties in the phase space.

A harmonic oscillator under the influence of noise is a basic model of various physical phenomena. Under Gaussian white noise the position and velocity of the oscillator are independent random variables which are distributed according to the bivariate Gaussian distribution with elliptic level lines. The distribution of phase is homogeneous. None of these properties hold in the general Lévy case...

On the Capacity of the Heat Channel, Waterfilling in the Time-Frequency Plane, and a C-NODE Relationship

The heat channel is defined by an analog filter and a subsequent measurement of the filter output signal perturbed by additive white Gaussian noise. The filter is related to the heat kernel of the quantum mechanical harmonic oscillator, so the name of the channel. The channel is modeled as an infinite-dimensional vector Gaussian channel and the capacity in terms of average energy of the input s...
